OUR PLAY-BASED OT APPROACH

When children are engaging in purposeful play, they are naturally learning from their environment.  Throughout our occupational therapy sessions, it may look like play, but as a skilled therapist, we are tailoring each session to your child’s individualized needs.  We make it fun and rewarding while presenting the right types of challenges to develop the underlying skills necessary to happily engage and function in their daily life.

ABOUT HAPPY HANDS OT

Happy Hands OT specializes in helping children acquire the skills necessary to develop functional independence in completing their activities of daily living (ADLs).  Occupational therapy uses a variety of skilled interventions to improve sensory deficits, fine motor, visual motor, self-care, and coordination difficulties to improve their overall participation and independence during their daily "occupations".

 

  We come to you!  Happy Hands OT provides mobile pediatric occupational therapy services in Columbus and surrounding areas.  We coordinate therapy treatment sessions in your own home or at locations of your choice ---- such as, daycare, your child's private school or public location (e.g. sensory gym, park) ---- to facilitate practical application of therapeutic strategies and real-world learning opportunities.

Happy Hands OT, LLC was created with the goal of providing more holistic and compassionate occupational therapy services to children.  We are here to not only help your child achieve their developmental milestones, but to also be a new support system for your family.  Our role with you and your child extends beyond the term "therapist" into that of coach, cheerleader, advocate, helper, and teacher.

Community-based private practice allows for a flexible methodology while focusing on and servicing the OT needs of your child and family. Without the demands, restrictions, and extensive insurance approvals found in other settings, your child and family come first.  We work as a collaborative team to set goals and develop a plan that is important to you.  We pride ourselves on building relationships with the families we work with, and we want you to feel supported and well-informed throughout the occupational therapy experience.

Our founder, Holly Fiala, knew firsthand, how chaotic life can be for a parent who must get their child to therapy every week.  So, she wanted to find a way to help make it easier for other families. That is why Happy Hands OT brings our services to you!  Whether it is in your home, daycare, private school setting, or meeting at a public location in the community to practice skills in real-world settings, we are here to help.  It would be our pleasure to be part of your child's journey!

Happy Hands OT's Story & Mission

Children who could benefit from Happy Hands OT’s services may display difficulties with some of the following:

  • Fine motor skills

  • School performance

  • Visual motor or visual perceptual skills

  • Postural control/core strength

  • Handwriting 

  • Immature or weak pencil grasp

  • Balance and coordination

  • Motor planning or sequencing skills 

  • Play and social skills

  • Ability to follow directions or concentrate on tasks

  • Decreased strength and/or endurance

  • Self-care skills (e.g. getting dressed, buttons/zippers, tying shoes, brushing teeth)

  • Over- or under-reactions to sensory stimuli such as touch, movement, sights, sounds and other sensations

  • Inconsistent arousal levels and alertness
